man what a waste. yet another in a series of bullshit cop shows from the tv
studios, same crap with a different name, over and over again.

some of the aussie cop shows are pretty good.
water rats was a good watch, and the black jack mini-series/tv-movies were
excellent.

i just finished watching -- thought it was pretty entertaining. and based on the
promo for next week's ep., it looks like i'll be keeping up with this one...

apparently this is one of the better cop shows. it is an australian series, so
will be different from the mass produced american cop shows. have not watched it
yet, but i think it may be worth a look.

i watched it on tv when it aired (omg ). it wasn't too bad. i enjoyed
it. i'm going to keep watching.

it was unusual to see shane bourne in a serious roll, i think it will just take
some getting used to. nice to see noni hazelhurst back into it too.

and there are a few good aussie shows. even though we don't have the same
quantity that goes thru the us, many of them are around for years. all saints
is in it's 10th season, blue heelers was around for about the same, mcleods
daughters has been around for about 3-4 years.

in australia, city homicide premiered this week and was up against the
premiere of californication (for once, we are only a few eps behind the us,
and not a few years).

city homicide won the night with an average of 1.65 million viewers across
australia (total population ~21 million), whereas californication averaged
almost a million.

funilly enough, there were complaints about both shows and networks about
using "smut and gore to shock their way to the top of the ratings" in the
papers.

i personally have only seen a little bit of this show, but normally the
serious drama's made in australia are pretty damn good, and i cant wait to see
the show in its entirety.

i watched this when it aired too, it was pretty good actually.
i wasn't expecting much so i wasn't disappointed.
it has a strong cast and follows the aussie crime drama legacy of no bull. what
i mean is, no blue lights, lab coats and computer analysis. i guess it is old
fashioned that way. get to the emotion of the crime, not the forensics of it.
i'm thinking of wildside, any aussies remember??
anyway, worth a look in my opinion, and it's shot entirely in melbourne, yay!!!

i'm with mars and some of the others on this. the show was surprisingly good -
certainly better than, say, sea patrol (or many of the other shows mentioned in
this thread: ffs, blue heelers and mccleod's daughters!).
oz tv has similar - even greater - limitations than uk tv, which is frequently
criticised here on eztv. we just don't have the population to produce that
much, and when we do seasons can be foreshortened - although that seems rare,
oz shows will often run for 20-odd eps/season. one reason that shows like
neighbours, mccleod's etc get made is because we sell them os for loads - but
the profits don't seem to go back into producing decent material. at the
moment, like the rest of the world, we are beset by reality tv shit - it's a
lot cheaper to produce than shows like city homicide, water rats and others.
even sea patrol wouldn't be cheap, but already appears to be on the verge of
heading down the soapie path - although the presence of lisa mccune pretty much
doomed it from the start (i'd bend that saskia burmeister over in a heartbeat,
though!).
another, related, problem is that when we buy us product, the networks here are
forced to buy in packages: if they buy, say, house and some other hit, they are
forced to also buy maybe half a dozen other pieces of crap (and often shows
that have already been cancelled in the us). the upshot that is that, even
though a lot of their stock is rubbish, they've already paid for it, and might
as well air it (as, like everywhere else, they treat their audience like crap) -
rather than investing in decent home-grown material. and - it's still cheaper
than making our own.
city homicide looks the goods, and is worth watching. it's 'culturally'
different from many us and uk shows, and may well be of interest to genre fans
from those countries. i'm surprised - pleasantly - to see it turn up here.

btw - i agree re: shane bourne. every time a character walked into his office
on monday, i kept expecting him to say "thank god you're here"!
[#53312] Written by: fms [28/08/2007, 19:56]
im from australia and watched it on 7
i liked it because it was a little different from others(mainly cause those
others are american cop shows)

shane bourne (hosts thank god your here in australia) which rates in the top 3
ever week (unlike that bomb american version) is a great actor..

outta all the actors in the show.. the only one i didnt like was daniel
mcpherson.. how he keeps getting acting gigs amazes me

thanks for the up.. will be getting this to keep

does no one remember shane bourne in mda on the abc? brilliant show.

sea patrol should be kicked to the curb. absolute rubbish.

there has been a lot of hype for this show leading up to the premier and whilst
it was a little slow for the first 10 minutes it really took off after that. i
was surprised at how good the story was and look forward to episode 3. from a
character driven perspective this was equally as good as csi which focuses to
heavily on the science and not enough on the characters. all in all would
highly recommend this be downloaded and viewed.

i am also from australia and watched this when it aired here. i actually really
enjoyed it, and thought it very good for an australian tv show. i usually don't
bother watching much stuff that is done here but this looked good from the
promos and stuff they were advertising.
worth a watch for sure, and glad to see eztv pop it up as i think it deserves to
be up for others to check out as well.

is it procedural?
