HBO's 'Getting On' Renewed for Third and Final Season Getting On (US) Login to vote
The Alex Borstein comedy will be back for six more episodes.

HBO is giving hospital comedy Getting On a final run.

The premium-cable network has renewed the Alex Borstein comedy for a third and final season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The show's third season — like its first two — will consist of six episodes.

Based on the British series of the same name, Getting On centers on the doctors and nurses who comprise a women's geriatric wing at a beleaguered hospital as they struggle with the realities of caring for the elderly amid an overwhelmed heath care system.

The HBO adaptation hails from Big Love creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer and their Anima Sola Productions banner. BBC Worldwide Productions' Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner also executive produce the show alongside the original series' producers: Geoff Atkinson, Jo Brand (who also starred in the original), Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine.

The original British version of the series ran for three seasons (and 15 total episodes), amid critical acclaim, earning a BAFTA win for best female performance in a comedy role for Brand and a writing nom for writers-stars Brand, Pepperdine and Scanlan. All told, the HBO show's run — which stars Borstein, Laurie Metcalf, Niecy Nash and Mel Rodriguez — will top the original with 18 episodes.

During its sophomore run, which concluded in mid-December, Getting On drew an average gross audience of 1.6 million viewers per episode.

Getting On will be the latest HBO series to earn a proper sendoff. The cabler recently bid farewell to The Newsroom, True Blood, Boardwalk Empire and Hello Ladies, which ended with a TV movie.

Getting On remains part of an HBO comedy lineup that also includes upcoming entries Ballers, The Brink and Vice Principals, as well as returning favorites Silicon Valley, Girls, Looking and Veep, among others.
